‘Govt taking steps to reduce infant mortality rate’

Kakinada: A workshop was organised on infant mortality at Government General Hospital here on Sunday, under the aegis of AP Medical and Health Services and Vaidya Vidhana Parishad. The workshop discussed problems resulting in maternal and infant mortality.

District Collector H Arun Kumar was invited as the chief guest for the programme. Addressing the gathering, he said preventive measures should be followed to reduce complications during delivery and reduce infant mortality rate to single digit by 2020.

The Collector said an action plan needs to be prepared to arrest these preventable deaths. He said concerned over the high infant mortality, the government is offering high-quality and affordable medicare in all 120 Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and 34 Community Health Centres (CHCs) in the district. DMHO Dr Uma Sundari and others were present.
