Eluru: Women and Child Welfare Minister Peethala Sujatha said the government is taking all steps to provide water for irrigation to farmers in the State by completing all the projects on time.
The Minister on Sunday released the book, “JALADARSINI”, published under Neeru – Pragathi programme by Irrigation Department at Gokul Kalyanamantapam.
She pointed out that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu took up the initiative of linking Krishna-Godavari rivers under the Pattiseema Lift irrigation Scheme (PLIS). She said soon the Chief Minister will take up the Krishna-Penna linkage scheme. The Minister said the construction of Polavaram project will be completed by 2018. Eluru MP Maganti Babu said the TDP has spent Rs 6,000 crore on irrigation project during the last one-and-half years.
District Collector K Bhaskar said the West Godavari district stood in first place in utilising water properly. He said besides paddy, there are plenty of opportunities to cultivate maize, oilpalm and other commercial and horticulture crops in the District. Eluru MLA Badeti Kota Rama Rao, ZP Chairman Mullapudi Bapiraju and others participated in the programme.
