Anantapur: The aim of the mega Lok Adalat is speedy settlement of cases at a low cost, observed Anantapur District Judge P Subramanya Kumar here on Saturday.

Speaking after holding the mega Lok Adalat, organised by the Legal Services Authority, he said 36,000 cases were pending in the district. He was hopeful that 3,000 cases would be settled at Lok Adalat.

District Superintendent of Police Sekhar Babu suggested that all cases that can be settled through compromise should be resolved during the Mega Lok Adalat, while assuring the department’s cooperation. He observed that the judiciary has a special place in a democratic system.

District Revenue Officer Hemasagar stated that the mega Lok Adalat was an ideal forum for settling pending land disputes, while quoting Collector Kona Sasidhar. He called upon various departments to cooperate with the judicial set-up in settling the maximum cases, thus bringing a good name to the district.

District Legal Services Authority Secretary Kamalakar Reddy said the Lok Adalat was being conducted every second Saturday, as ordered by the Supreme Court. Departments like Police, Revenue, Bar Association and advocates were cooperating in popularising the concept. He appealed to litigants to shun differences and discord while opting for settlement of cases in a cordial atmosphere. The authority, he stated, was organising public awareness programmes to patronise Lok Adalats.

Third Additional District Judge Sunita, Bar Association president Manohar Naidu, many advocates and litigants were present.
