Vijayawada: Former Rajya Sabha member Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad has demanded the Telugu Desam government to establish Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University and Dr BR Ambedkar Open University to keep up the interests of students in residual Andhra Pradesh.

Talking to the newsmen here on Sunday, Lakshmi Prasad said that earlier in residual Andhra Pradesh the two universities offered education to thousands of students in the study centers located at Rajahamundry, Srisailam and Kuchipudi areas. But after the bifurcation, the Telangana government has owned both the universities and stopped generating wages for the faculty from last six months.

In this regard, the AP Government has challenged the Telangana government in the High Court. After listening the voices of the respective governments over the issue, the High Court released declaration favoring Telangana government. Counter attacking the High Court’s declaration, the AP Government produced the issue before the Supreme Court. A memo was issued by the High Court to the AP government on September 4 to pay the wage arrears for the faculty in both the universities, he said.

The former Rajya Sabha member said that the State government had responded to the memo on November 24. The petition reached the Supreme Court was postponed to January 5, 2016 as the advocates from Telangana and AP requested time to submit the reports.
