Visakhapatnam: Human Resource Development Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao inaugurated table tennis and chess competitions as part of Visakha Utsav-2015 at the Swarna Bharati Municipal Indoor Stadium here on Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister informed that as the first initiative, the Utsav office was put up on the Vuda office premises on December 11 itself while launching the sports as second step. He said those who excelled in the competitions would be given away prizes on the Visakha Utsav main dais. He said that the TDP government was giving priority for sports and games to encourage youth. He informed that a Sports City would be set up near the Vizag Steel Plant and a Huge Sports Complex at Madhuravada on the lines of Gachibouli in Hyderabad.
The Minister thanked the members of the Visakha Utsav Sports organising committee.
District Sports Officer Surya Rao said that about 400 boys and girls from different schools in the city were participating in the Under-10 and Under-16 chess competitions and 100 were taking part in the Under-16 table tennis. Joint Collector J Nivas, Additional Joint Collector D V Reddy, Project Director of District Water Management Agency Sriramulu Naidu and DEO M V Krishna Reddy were also present.
