Explaining the growth in agriculture sector, the Collector said 12,300 hectares of land was converted into fish tanks to net additional revenue of Rs 2,000 crore. He said that they were planning to introduce aquaculture in another 15,000 hectares.
He said drip and micro irrigation system would be introduced in the district to bring 70,414 hectares of land under cultivation.
Coming to education sector, the Collector said that the literacy rate stands at 73.7 per cent and steps would be taken to achieve cent per cent literacy by 2016-17.
The Collector said around 10,000 youth would get employment opportunities in the district as L&T and Hitec City Limited were setting up four units under Special Economic Zone.
The Collector said under smart village and smart ward programme, 582 village panchayats and 277 municipal wards came forward to participate in Swatch Bharat programme.
