Vizianagaram: Most of the engineering colleges in the district are functioning with minimal faculty or inadequate infrastructure. The number of colleges that don’t adhere to AICTE norms of running an institute is on the rise.

Among the rules being flouted by colleges are requirement of infrastructure and faculty members. In some colleges, the students who are awaiting their final year results are teaching junior classes. Andhra Pradesh has the largest number of engineering and management institutions that have received a show-cause notice from the AICTE for violating norms.

To attract students, few colleges have also been offering laptops to students, and some, the provision to pay fees in installments. It is said that many colleges have been focusing on the infrastructure for the few courses that are in demand. Even the mechanical, VLSI designing, computer sciences and software engineering workshops do not have advanced infrastructure.

Speaking to The Hans India, an engineering student, K Ranjan Mehta from Odisha said that he is pursuing Masters in Engineering in a private engineering college here and is also working at a mining company.
