The small town of Tiruchanoor was flooded with pilgrims, who thronged the Padmavati Devi Temple on Wednesday on the auspicious occasion of Panchami Teertham held on the last day of the annual Karthika Brahmotsavams.

The holy Padmasarovaram Pushkarini turned into a sea of devotees with tens of thousands of pilgrims hailing from across the country participating in Panchami Theertham, the most important ritual, marking the conclusion of Karthika Brahmotsavams. Panchami Theertham is a celebration of the manifestation of Padmavati Devi in a golden lotus in Padma Sarovaram on Sukla Panchami of Karthika month. Since she emerged from the divine golden lotus at the centre of the Pushkarini, she is called Padmavathi. The rituals commenced with the grand procession of temple elephant during the wee hours from Tirumala to Tiruchanoor which carried the ‘Sare’ (gift from Lord to his beloved consort comprising turmeric, kumkum, tulsi, saris, etc).

After rendering special pujas the temple priests performed Snapana Tirumanjanam to Chakrattalwar and processional deity of Goddess Padmavathi in the specially decorated mandapam on the Pushkarini amidst Vedic chants. As the auspicious Dhanurmasa commences on Wednesday, Goddess Padmavathi Devi donned as Godai wearing special decorative jewel made of parrots. Later, she was decked with couple of special jewels brought from Tirumala as her birth day gift from beloved ‘Srivaru’. The jewels included ‘Godai Kireetam’ and ‘108 Lakshmi Kasula Mala’.

After the end of the hour-long Snapana Tirumanjanam, Sudarshana Chakram was taken into Padma Pushkarini for a holy dip at around 11.55am. Avabhrida Snanam was performed amidst religious fervour. It is an interesting visual spectacle as thousands of devotees take a plunge in the temple tank along with Chakrattalwar for holy dip chanting Govindanamam and Padmavathi Namam, at the same time. TTD EO Dr D Sambasiva Rao inspected the arrangements for the mega auspicious fete. He inspected the arrangements made at the venue and interacted pilgrims over the arrangements. About 60,000 pilgrims were estimated to have graced the occasion. TTD EO Dr D Sambasiva Rao and a host of officials from TTD, local police and others participated in the event.
