Vijayawada: The State Cabinet had decided to take some more time to settle the demands of the Anganwadi staff.Briefing media persons after the Cabinet meeting, the Minister for Finance, Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, said that the government would require Rs 320 crore to increase the wages of the Anganwadi staff. This was when the Central government provided 90 per cent of the funds to the State, he said.

He further said that the Central government had brought down its share from 90 per cent to 60 per cent making the State to pay 40 per cent. So, State government has to cough up Rs 1,200 crore to meet the demands of the Anganwadi staff, he added.

Yanamala said that the government would take a decision on this and address their problems soon. He further recalled that the government had already responded positively to their demands and would require some time to work out the payment modalities.

Finance Minister further said that the Cabinet had also cleared the government’s decision to extend VAT and CST exemption to the sugar factories in the State which would amount to Rs 60 crore, he added. Ministers Ganta Srinivasa Rao, Palle Raghunadha Reddy and K Atchennayudu were also present.
