Guntur:Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, Union Minister for Urban Development and Parliamentary Affairs M Venkaiah Naidu and other Ministers will participate in the foundation stone laying for the much awaited All India Institute of Medical Sciences here on December 19.

The foundation laying programme had been postponed thrice in the past due to several reasons. Funds to the tune of Rs 16,018 crore have been allotted for the construction of AIIMS buildings and infrastructure.

The establishment of AIIMS at Mangalagiri will be a boon to the people of capital districts Krishna and Guntur besides other districts in the region as top medical facilities will be accessible free of cost to them.

For pink card holders, the services will be available at affordable charges. AIIMS will also provide 200 medical seats at an all India basis apart from 200 seats for under-graduate courses and 100 PG seats. The medical institute hospital will have 2,500 beds catering to the people of the entire State.

The State government had already allotted an extent of 214 acres for the AIIMS project. The AIIMS can also have access to the buildings of TB Sanitorium, which also has 200 beds available on its premises.

The six-decade old TB Sanitorium was handed over to the government for the AIIMS subject. The premier medical institution is likely to have 100 MBBS seats which will be filled with candidates from all States in the country. The beautiful picturesque location in between two hills will now host the prestigious institute.
