The Childline representatives received a call on Thursday that the parents of a 14-year-old girl are planning to perform her marriage with a 24year man.

The Childline team led by BV Sagar and ICPS outreach worker D Syamala visited the house of Kuncham Lazar at Amudalapalli village of Podili mandal and stopped the arrangements of marriage.

The Childline representatives and the officials counseled Lazar and his relatives that the girls should attain the age of 18 years to get married and anyone forcing her to marry are liable for two year imprisonment and Rs 1 lakh fine under Prevention of Child Marriages Act, 2006.

The parents of the girl gave a written consent to the district Child Protection Committee that they would not perform the marriage of the child until she becomes major.
