A huge adrenal tumor of almost 16x12x6 in length was successfully removed by doctors at the Manipal Hospitals by performing a rare laparoscopy surgery on a 34-year-old patient, Nagaraju.

Talking to the newsmen at the hospital premises on Friday, Urologist G Ravi Shankar said that Nagaraju was admitted in to the hospital with complaint of right side upper abdominal pain. The patient was suffering with the pain from the past two months.

A team of doctors conducted post clinical investigation and radiological evaluation to the patient and found that he was suffering from diabetes mellitus and a huge adrenal tumor on his right. Doctors felt it hard to operate the patient as he was also morbidly obese weighting 115 kgs, he said.

Explaining the operation procedure, he said that the sugar levels of the patient were first brought in to control and immediately laparoscopic right adrenalectomy was performed. The advantage of this technique over traditional open surgery includes a shorter hospital stay, speed recover with less pain and bleeding.

The patient, who underwent the procedure few days ago, is now fully recovered, he said. Surgical Gastroenterologists Manisegaran and Surendra Jasti, Anesthetist Balaji and other doctors also present at the conference.
