Kurnool: Horticulture gardens are being raised in 6,000 acres in the district under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).

Speaking to newsmen here on Thursday, District Water Management Agency (DWMA) Project Director Ch Pulla Reddy said 7 lakh saplings of different species were planted on the bunds in agricultural fields and in other vacant places under the scheme.

Farmers are being encouraged to raise fruit-bearing plants. Saplings are being supplied free of cost to farmers, besides providing them nourishment costs for three years under the scheme to promote horticulture, he said.
