Supply of red gram through fair price shops by the Civil Supplies department at subsidised rates for the benefit of the common man during the last two months has been stopped at the old rate as import of 600 metric tonnes of African red gram has not materialised. The new rate is Rs 90 a kg.
Anantapur: Supply of red gram through fair price shops by the Civil Supplies department at subsidised rates for the benefit of the common man during the last two months has been stopped at the old rate as import of 600 metric tonnes of African red gram has not materialised. The new rate is Rs 90 a kg.
Dealers of ration shops who have remitted DDs for the red gram quota raised a hue and cry as they did not receive stocks. There is no clarity on the supply of stocks for November. Besides, essential items are being arranged for the flood-hit people of Chittoor, Kadapa and Nellore districts. In view of these factors receipt of red gram stocks to the district appears doubtful.
The 10.20 lakh white card holders in the district require 1,020 metric tonnes of dal every month. Only 63 tonnes was supplied at some places in October. Officials brought pressure on the FP dealers to pay DDs for red gram stocks according to the new rate. They are demanding refund of the amounts while expressing anxiety because of non-supply of stocks.
The government is unable to do anything as tenders are yet to be finalised. Besides the red gram harvest time is fast approaching. In an attempt to control the price of dal some wholesale traders have been asked to sell the commodity at Rs 130 a kg. This is also not happening, as they shut shops after sale for two days.
Ration cardholders are unable to purchase red gram outside at the rate of Rs 190-200 a kg. While consumers and dealers of shops favour supply of dal through ration shops, officials admit that there has been a delay in receipt of stocks. They say the supply will take place.
People are anxious because of stoppage of supply of dal in Civil Supplies Minister Paritala Sunita’s native district. They are firm that the supply should be made through FP shops for the benefit of the common man.
