Vijayawada: In a bid to provide services to the people, the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation has launched a mobile app- ‘VMC citizen services’. Mayor Koneru Sridhar launched the app at the council hall here on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, Koneru Sridhar said that the app was aimed at providing good services for the citizens. He added that it will save citizens’ time and energy as they need not go round the corporation office to pay taxes.
“The app can be used to pay property tax, water cess, sewerage charges, vacant plot tax, D and O trade licences, fire NoC, commercial rents and others. All this can be done with a click of a mouse and people need not go to Mee Seva centres or corporation circle offices to avail the services”, he said.
With the recent allegations of corruption being on the rise at the VMC, the officials are banking on the app that would help the officials to contain irregularities. The officials are confident that the App, the first to be launched by any municipal corporation in the country, would revolutionise the way services are being offered and used as it enables the users to pay taxes, posting grievances, applying for D and O licences and others online, said Mayor Koneru Sridhar.
Municipal Commissioner G Veerapandian said that the App was developed so as to provide services to the citizens who are away from the city. There are many vacant plots in the city from which the VMC has to get taxes. As the owners are away, the VMC has a lot of arrears to be collected. With this App the officials hope that it would help in generating more revenue.
“Even if a person is away from the city, he or she can use the app or log on to our website to pay the taxes. More than 4,000 owners of vacant plots have to pay the tax. With this facility, they can easily pay the tax”, he added.
The civic chief further stated that that the services are available for android users at the moment and it would be developed on other platforms soon.
The app also allows the user to use as many as 10 services such as calculating the taxes to be paid, tracking the status of a complaint, agendas of council meetings and standing committee meetings, tenders released by VMC, news and events at VMC and chat interface for users to post comments, upload images and share their views with other users of App.
“The app also sends alerts from VMC on bills to be paid, deadlines, commissioner’s messages, events and important alerts”, he explained. Deputy Mayor Gogula Venkata Ramana Rao, VMC chief engineer MA Shukur and other corporators were present on the occasion.
