The State Bank of India (SBI) on Saturday offered small lending to individuals for their needs and appealed to them not to approach the private lenders. Speaking to media persons, the SBI Vijayawada Zone Deputy General Manager, Rajiv Kohli, said that the bank in the zone spread over East Godavari, West Godavari and Krishna districts with 300 branches has provisions to extend small loans to the people with minimum procedures. He said that the bank had already been extending financial support to hundreds of women representing the Self-Help Groups in the three districts for their small needs including those for the self-employment activities. He said that the bank would also offer advances and accepts deposits from individuals with basic residential information like Aadhaar Card.

He regretted that some of the people have gone to the private lenders and were cheated in the city. While the issue is being taken care by the State government, he said the SBI would be happy to extend financial support to the people in need. He said that the bank was also implementing the Centrally-sponsored schemes like Mudra, Kishore and Tarun, where the customers could enjoy the advances from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10 lakh depending on the requirement.

Rajiv Kohli said that the SBI in the three coastal districts would allow customers to open savings accounts with zero balance and would offer online banking and ATM facilities. He further said that they have advanced Rs 27 crore in the three districts to 12,000 persons in the three districts in the small loans sector. The loans ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 5 lakh were offered to the customers, he said and wanted the people to make use of the banking services of the SBI for their financial needs. The bank regional managers, Apparao and G Venkat, were also present at the news conference.
