East Godavari: Sensing trouble from farmers, additional police forces were deployed in areas where KSEZ lands were acquired for setting up industries in U- Kothapalli mandal on Sunday.

According to sources, a total of 150 men with five circle inspectors and 10 officers of sub inspector cadre were deployed in Moolapata, where GMR had set up a toy-making unit. This is in addition to forces deployed earlier in KSEZ areas.

It is believed that the authorities had taken a decision to this effect in view of prevailing situation in U- Kothaoalli and in adjacent Tondanagi mandals, where agriculture land to the extent of 8,250 acres was acquired for KSEZ purpose against the wishes of local farming community.
It may be recalled that 13 members of KSEZ Vyetireka Porata Committee (VPC) were arrested on Saturday against their decision to hold a public meeting on December 29 at Srirampuram to oppose the acquisition of land for industrial purpose.
Meanwhile, former MLA and YSRCP leader Pendem Dorababu visited Pavivaripodu in the suburbs of Ponnada village in U- Kothapalli mandal where farmers are holding demonstrations against the arrest of VPC leaders on Saturday at Pithapuram. He assured them of his full cooperation for the release of arrested leaders.
In another development, the leaders of the VPC would be produced in Pithapuram court again on Monday. Earlier when the arrested were produced in the Court of Mandal Executive Magistrate the Judicial Magistrate was absent on Saturday.
As per the norms, the judicial magistrate is the appropriate authority to deal with the case. According to reliable sources, the KSEZ operators want to put up fence across the entire area of 8,250 acres to offset any trouble from protestors.
It may be mentioned that five Chinese companies have signed MOU with the KSEZ operators to setup industrial units. Due to this, the authorities have begun expediting works to commission industrial units at the earliest. Against this back drop, the farmers are firmly resolved to conduct a public meeting at an interior area in Srirampuram village on December 29.
Meanwhile, the law enforcing authorities are making all-out effects to foil the attempts of protestors to organise any such public meetings.
