Tirupati: The farmers of Tarigonda where the well known Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple was located, near Valmikipuram in Chittoor district, launched a realy fast in front of the temple protesting against the TTD for rejecting their demand for conducting the float festival (Teppostavam) of the Lord.
The temple, which was under the control of endowment department, was taken over by TTD in 2008 conceding the demands of public representatives and various organisations. It is a famous Vaishnavite temple having a historical background and also connected to Tarigonda Vengamamba, an ardent devotee of Lord Venkateswara.
Cutting across the party lines, people from in and around the villages also joined with the farmers in the protest seeking the TTD to continue the age old tradition of conducting the temple float festival in Ramanayani cheruvu near the shrine. Reddy Narasimha Reddy, former MPP and local TDP leader, leading the stir said that conducting the float festival was the age old practice, which was in vogue, will usually be taken up immediately after the tank was full with water.

Another leader Narayana, husband of sarpanch Lakshmi, and farmers echoed the same view and feared that taking farming without conducting the float festival would spell doom and wanted the TTD to follow the age old tradition of conducting the Teppotsavam respecting the sentiments of the farmers and locals.
The tank after a gap of 10 years was brimming with water, thanks to heavy rains in November. Therefore, the villagers approached the TTD for resuming float festival in the tank.
