Vijayawada: The State government is looking at all means to implement health insurance scheme for the handloom weavers from next year. The support from Central government is abundant, so there would be a glorious future for handloom weavers and their products, said Minister for Handlooms and Excise Kollu Ravindra, here on Saturday.

Addressing a press conference at District’s Rice and Oil Millers’ Association Hall in Gandhi Nagar, Ravindra explained about the welfare schemes that TDP government has been implementing and assures promotion of handlooms in big way. To the existing 11 clusters in AP, a mega cluster with a budget of Rs 70 crore has been sanctioned to be set up at Guntur and Prakasam districts. An amount of Rs 13 crore has already been released towards it, he said.
An amount of Rs 110 crore will be waived off for handloom weavers and a 20 per cent subsidy is being given for purchasing yarn. About 50 per cent subsidy on electricity is implemented and pensions of Rs 1,000 are being issued to the eligible. Skill development centers to empower the weavers are active across the State, added Ravindra.
He further said that the Hand looms expos held at 10 districts and 7 special display of exhibition across the State along with a national exhibition in the year 2014-15 had yielded over Rs 6.98 crore. A series of 15 district level exhibitions, 6 special shows and another national level exhibitions have been granted for the State to be held for the year 2015-16. As many as 7 district level exhibitions, 2 special exhibitions have earned as much as Rs 2.34 crore and the national level expo is all set to be inaugurated on Sunday, said Minister.
