Srikakulam: Agriculture, revenue and statistics department officials jointly conducted experiments on estimated yields of crops as part of National Agriculture Insurance Scheme (NAIS) implementation for paddy crop in 13 districts and red gram crop in Anantapur district for the coming kharif season 2016.
Basing on these experiments, compensation amount would be paid to farmers under NAIS if crops are damaged due to natural calamities like cyclones, floods and drought said Srikakulam Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO), B Dayanidhi.
The officials collected production details per acre by conducting random experiments at field level across the district till December third week.
According to the officials of the three departments, paddy cultivated in an extent of 2.05 lakh hectares in Srikakulam district during 2014 kharif season and yielding was estimated at 25 bags per acre.
During 2015 kharif season paddy was cultivated in an extent of 2.04 lakh hectares in the district and yielding was estimated at 28 bags for per acre.
Paddy yielding increased marginally in 2015 kharif as against 2014 season since no natural calamity was reported in 2015 said statistical officer of Srikakulam, K Appala Naidu.
Initially 2015 kharif season started with adverse climate as sufficient rainfall was not recorded till September but slowly paddy extent covered to 2.04 lakh hectares and better production received due to non- occurrence of natural calamities said joint director for agriculture (JD-A), K Ch Appala Swami.
We have conducted 1,230 experiments in Srikakulam, 1,478 in Tekkali and 1,422 in Palakonda revenue divisions to estimate paddy crop yielding said chief planning officer (CPO), M Sivaram Naicker.
