Visakhapatnam: The city will host a Kalachakra-type festival at the Buddhist project coming up at the VUDA Health Arena on the foothill of Kailasagiri.

The HRD Minister, Ganta Srinivasa Rao, who inspected the Arena on Saturday, told reporters that the Buddha Project taken up with a small budget would be an added attraction to the city.

“We will also try to organise Kalachakra-type festival to attract pilgrims from various parts of the country and abroad,’’ the Minister told the reporters.

Senior Revenue official R Mallikarjuna Rao who is supervising the Amaravathi Project at the new capital site, briefed about the Buddha project to the Minister.

He said health arena was taken up at a cost of Rs 7.3 crore and has a cycling track, jogging track, aerobics centre, martial arts centre and a gym, which has been completed so far. An amount of Rs 34 lakh was being spent for the Buddha Silent Zone where yoga and dhyan would be taught. The Kalachakra festival is organized in Bodhgaya, the place where Buddha attained enlightenment and lasts for 10 days wherein a large number of people come together to create inner peace.

As per Vajrayana Buddhism, Kalachakra is related to the concept of time and cycles in Buddhism. The cycles include everything right from the cycle of human breathing to the cycle of planets.
