Tirupati: Forest personnel, who launched an intense search in the Rangampeta forest area, stumbled upon a van carrying 32 red sanders logs worth Rs 1 crore which was seized on Sunday.

According to official sources, the team of forest personnel, who took up combing in the forest area, on Bhimavaram-Mangalampeta route spotted a group of smugglers loading red sanders logs in a van. The smugglers fled after seeing the forest personnel leaving behind the vehicle.
Forest personnel in their search of the vehicle found two registration number plates – one is Andhra Pradesh and another Tamil Nadu, indicating that the smugglers using them, to mislead the police and forest personnel.
The van using Andhra Pradesh number in Chittoor district and after crossing the border, Tamil Nadu number plate in that State, sources said.
The logs were meant for transportation to Katihanahalli in Bengaluru rural which is a haven for international smugglers. Combing is still on to track the smugglers who managed to escape when reports last came in.
