Coastal AP districts in grip of severe cold
Coastal Andhra Pradesh is experiencing severe cold conditions with mercury dropping by 3 degrees Celsius below normal on Monday. The conditions are severe in the Agency areas of the district where the minimum temperature has dropped below 5 degrees Celsius.

Visakhapatnam: Coastal Andhra Pradesh is experiencing severe cold conditions with mercury dropping by 3 degrees Celsius below normal on Monday. The conditions are severe in the Agency areas of the district where the minimum temperature has dropped below 5 degrees Celsius.
Temperatures in the Agency are tracked by the Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS) based at Chintapalle, about 100 km from the city. The IMD has no observatory in this region and according to them, Nandigama is the coldest place in the State with minimum temperature registering at 12 degrees Celsius.
The local Cyclone Warning Centre officials said the minimum temperature fell by 3 degrees Celsius in coastal Andhra Pradesh and there is no cold wave yet in the region. Fall of 5 degrees Celsius is considered as a cold wave.
The RARS maintained that Lambasinghi and Minimuluru have been experiencing severe cold conditions with the minimum temperatures dropping below 5 degrees Celsius. The conditions are also severe in Tajangi, Paderu, Araku, GK Veedhi and few other areas in Vizag Agency where the minimum temperature was around 6 degrees Celsius.
RARS officials said Lambasinghi could be now the coldest place in South India followed by Ooty which recorded 7 degrees Celsius on Monday morning. Thick fog has enveloped the Agency making it tough for the motorists to negotiate the curves on the ghat road. The ghat roads are also abuzz with tourists who have been flocking Lambasinghi to experience the minimum temperatures. Visakhapatnam city recorded 15 degrees Celsius at Airport and 17.8 degrees Celsius in the city making it pleasant for the visiting tourists.
