Visakhapatnam: YSRCP MLAs Kidari Sarveswara Rao and Giddi Eswari gheraoed Zilla Parishad chairperson Lalam Bhavani demanding cancellation of the GO No 97 facilitating mining of bauxite in the Agency during the general body meeting here on Wednesday.
They also alleged that the sanctioned works were going on at a snail’s pace and there was no proper monitoring by the senior officials. They also alleged that the Agency was being neglected by the government since all the elected representatives belonged to the Opposition.
The MLAs, including those belonging to the ruling party, expressed their unhappiness over absence of the ministers in the general body meeting. Pendurthy MLA Bandaru Satyanarayana Murthy said the presence of ministers would help understand the problems being faced by the people.
The chairperson told them that the ministers could not attend the meeting since they have to be present at the Cabinet meeting being held at the same time. Anakapalle MLA Peela Govinda Satyanarayana said that the senior officials of the agriculture department were not attending the mandal-level meetings being organised to discuss the sugarcane farmers issue.
The chairperson, who presided over the meeting, said all the works in the current financial year were going on as per the schedule and hoped that they would be completed by end of March 31.
District Cooperative Central Bank chairman Sukumar Varma said 156 paddy purchase centres were opened in the district for the convenience of the farmers. MLCs MVVS Murthi, Collector and senior officials of the district administration participated in the general body meeting.
