The Vijayawada Book Festival Society (VBFS) is all set to organise its 27th annual Book Fare at Swarajya Maidan (PWD Grounds) here from January 1 to 11. It has made allotment to as many as 230 stalls owing to the restricted space at the venue this time. The extravaganza of literature will be inaugurated by the Minister for Irrigation Devineni Umamaheswara Rao.

It has made allotment to as many as 230 stalls owing to the restricted space at the venue this time. The extravaganza of literature will be inaugurated by the Minister for Irrigation Devineni Umamaheswara Rao.
Addressing media persons at the venue of the book festival here on Thursday, VBFS president B Babjee said that they had pulled all strings to ensure that the event is held at Swarajya Maidan. The arena was named after late Muvvala Perumallu (Jayanthi) and the stage for cultural and literary activities was named after late Chalasani Prasad. The event would be honoured by Sahitya Academy awardee Rachapalem Chandrasekhara Reddy.
City Mayor Koneru Sridhar, MP Kesineni Srinivas, MLA Bonda Umamaheswara Rao will participate in the event which would be presided by District Collector Babu A. Editorial director of a leading Telugu newspaper K Ramachandramurthy, CEO of a Telugu news channel V Ravi Prakash would attend the event as guest of honours, he said.
Following the inauguration would be the centenary celebrations of Muvvala Perumallu (Jayanthi) at the Sahitya Vedika. Various book releases, centenary meetings, literary competitions would be held throughout the book fare.
‘Walk for Books’ would be taken out on January 4, added Babji. Vice-president of the VBFS K Lakshmaiah, secretary A B S Sairam, joint secretary B Ravi Kumar, former president Ramaswamy and others were present.
