365 work days for capital region labourers demanded

Addressing the news persons at MB Vignana Vedika here on Saturday, the union State secretary V Venkateswarlu said that the State government had promised alternative work for them after the fertile lands in the capital region were given up. It had showed that 369 mandals in the State were drought-hit. In spite of assurance of the Central government in extending work hours by 50 days, there was no sign of works being commenced. Release of the government order saying that 200 work days would be implemented only in 196 mandals of the State had only added to the woes of workers, he said.
State committee of the union would prepare a plan of action to agitate for benefits of the workers in capital region. “We demand that the capital region labourers are guaranteed work for 365 days and the labourers from drought-hit areas are given 200 minimum work days in a year. A minimum of Rs 300 per day wage has to be given to the workers and payment has to be made on a weekly basis. Government should rollback on Janmabhoomi committees and ensure that the labourers are not harassed,” said Venkateswarlu.State president Dadala Subba Rao also spoke on the occasion.
