Vizianagaram: The government has directed the authorities to conduct inquiry into alleged supply of rice bran instead of atta packets distributed to ration card holders as part of Sankranthi Chandranna Kanuka programme. Women in various areas in the district have brought to the notice of the authorities during Janmabhoomi Grama Sabhas that they got rice bran in the wheat flour packets. They questioned the authorities over the faulty supply. Following the complaints, Revenue Divisional Officer of Parvathipuram R Govinda Rao visited the villages and secured information from the card holders over the supply.

People of Duddukhallu village in GL Purammandal shown to the RDO the rice bran supplied in the wheat atta packets. They told the RDO that whatever rice bran supplied was not useful for consumption. On Monday, RDO Govinda Rao interacted with local people and even opened the packets and found around 100 grams of rice bran after filtering the atta. Later, he told the villagers that he would give a report to District Collector on this issue. He said that it might be the bran of wheat but not the rice bran. Later, Tahasildar D Subrahmanyam also visited the village and found the same result. Even the consumers in Komarada mandal also found that the quality of atta was not good.
