Govt to engage Dappu Kalakarulu to popularise govt schemes

A ‘Dappu Mahotsavam’ will be held in the city soon and more than 1 lakh artistes and their families would attend it. The Minister said that a report on the state of affairs of the artistes would be submitted to the Chief Minister so that welfare programmes for them could be formulated and implemented, he added.

Guntur: Social Welfare Minister Ravela Kishore Babu on Wednesday said the government was committed to the welfare of Dappu Kalakarulu. He said their services would be utilised in creating awareness on the welfare programmes of government, he said.

Addressing Dappu Kalakarulu from all the 13 districts at the ZP Council Hall here, Ravela said that the state has 20,000 drummer artistes. In spite of the advent of mass media and modern publicity techniques, publicity through Dappu was still the best bet in rural areas, he said.
