The compound of the GVR Government Music and Dance College turned into a place of festivities with women and young girls taking part in Sankranthi Sambaralu competitions called as  \'Sankranthi Sobha\' that were organised by Krishnaveni Creations, here on Monday.

The compound of the GVR Government Music and Dance College turned into a place of festivities with women and young girls taking part in Sankranthi Sambaralu competitions called as 'Sankranthi Sobha' that were organised by Krishnaveni Creations, here on Monday. The organisation came forward to encourage women to practice the dying traditional and cultural aspects of the festivals.

A series of cultural and traditional activities were planned on the occasion by the organisers. The first half of the programme saw women participating in events like Rangoli, Traditional dress, Kite flying and traditional cooking. More than 100 women have registered their names for the events and displayed their artistic best.

Chairman of Annayya Charities Bonda Srinivasa Rao inaugurated the Kite Flying competition while Hanuman Gupta and Vijayasri Gupta inaugurated the Rangoli competition. Grounds were divided in square boxes for the participants who were asked to design rangolis in two various categories, Chukkala muggu and Colourful Rangoli.

While a few of the participants kept it simple by deisging Sankranthi Radham muggu, the others added a dash of colour and flowers to make the design more attractive. Traditional Gobbemmalu made of cow dung, navadhanyalu and kondapalli toys were used in designs to bring festive look to the arrangement.

Women who prepared a few delicacies at home assembled the preparations and garnished them for the competition that was judged by retired Telugu Lecturer Regina. The items in the display included Sajja Boorelu, Jonna Rotti sweet, Masala Bajji, Guthi Vankaya, Cabbage chutney, Purnalu, Garelu, Sunni Vundalu, Godhuma Halwa, Kudumu Purnalu, Kobbari Burelu, Atukula Pongali, Banana Pachi Pulusu, Siriyali, Penilu, Jalebi and etc.

The first half of the event concluded as the young and adults took part in the traditional attire competition. Toddlers were also dressed up in half saris with pulajada which attracted the onlookers. President of Krishnaveni Creations Madugula Rama Krishna, Founder B Jaya Prakash, president of Rotary Club of Vijayawada MV Suresh Kumar and others were present during the programme.
