Lieutenant General Bipin Rawat, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Southern Command cautioned against the cross border terrorism and asked the armed forces to be vigil to foil such attempts prompted and initiated by the enemies.

Addressing the Investiture Ceremony to mark the Army Day in Secunderabad recently, the General said that Armed Forces including Army, Navy and Air Force should stand united against the tendency of the neighbouring country, which resorts to terrorist activities after its defeat in many wars in the past.

Condemning the recent Pathankot attack, he said that the Southern Command is prepared to face the challenges of terrorist activities and cautioned against the misuse of social media by certain elements, which lure vulnerable people with money to collect information about India.

Later, the General presented awards to 23 officers, JCOs and other ranks including three veer naris (war widows) including the ‘Southern Army Commander’s Unit Citation’ to 17 units of Southern Command, in recognition of the exceptional services rendered by them.

Prominent among the award winners were Major General JS Negi, who was awarded the ‘Yudh Seva Medal’ (YSM) for exemplary leadership qualities displayed while combating insurgents in the North East.

The Investiture Ceremony was attended by Lieutenant General Jagbir Singh, General Officer Commanding Dakshin Bharat Area, senior officers from tri-services posted in Hyderabad and Secunderabad, apart from a host of civil dignitaries.
