Chittoor: District Superintendent of Police (SP) G Srinivas said that the State government has made accident insurance cover mandatory for all the drivers in the district.

On the instructions of the SP, the Chittoor police have taken up a massive awareness drive to sensitise drivers for taking accident insurance policy from the Life Insurance Corporation.

The SP said it is mandatory for drivers to get an LIC policy which would be beneficial for him and to his family members. He stated that drivers are prone to accidents because of reckless driving.

“An accident insurance policy would become helpful to family if the driver dies in accident,” he added. He cautioned them not to indulge in rash driving and overtaking of vehicles while driving at high speeds. Srinivas further said that district police have distributed the LIC policies to 350 women.

Srinivas said that he would constitute a city monitoring committee for resolving traffic menace in the city. He gave a call to people to extend cooperation for inculcating the importance of traffic rules. He sought cooperation of the Chittoor Municipal Corporation for clearing encroachments in the city.

Srinivas said that red sanders smuggling activities have come down drastically in the district. He stated that he was relentlessly fighting against the anti-social elements in the district for maintaining the law and order effectively.
