Guntur: Minister for Health Kamineni Srinivas assured that the State government has stepped up efforts to improve basic amenities in all government hospitals, apart from ensuring no shortage of medicines.

Addressing media persons, during 'Meet the Press' programme at the local IMA Hall here on Thursday, Srinivas promised to increase bed strength in hospitals. “In a bid to improve quality of medical treatment, we have appointed 500 medical officers on contract basis to tackle shortage in all districts,” he added.

“The government is investing about Rs 6,000 crores for improving amenities and facilities in primary health centres to district hospitals. As many as 1,000 nurses will be recruited to add to the existing strength. The Central government is also spending Rs1,200 crores to improve amenities and infrastructure in primary health centres and regional hospitals,” the minister said.

Answering a query Srinivas said that a transfer policy is being formulated to relocate employees, who are working in a hospital for years. The Minister said disciplinary action had been initiated against 600 doctors who were negligent in duties. The health Minister promised to attend to issues relating to journalist health cards and their hassle-free acceptability in specified private hospitals. He said that a full-time administrative officer will be appointed at the district headquarters to attend to administrative issues.
