Visakhapatnam: General secretary of All India Democratic Women’s Association Jagmathi Sanghwan demanded that the State government should control the sale of liquor which has been causing increase in the violence against women.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Sanghwan said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in general made several promises to improve the lot of the women after assuming power, the women were being subjected to more difficulties in their day-to-day lives.

“Naidu promised to eradicate belt shops to check the flow of liquor, waive loans availed by DWCRA members and assured employment. But none of these promises were fulfilled,” Sanghwan said.

She said there is an increase in the unemployment of women as the Andhra Pradesh government has cut down the budget of ICDS and NREGS to half and is in the process of retrenching ASHA workers. She said there is a tremendous burden on the women to manage the families and bring up children.

She said AIDWA would launch a signature campaign against the government moves to dilute the Panchayat Raj Act.

The senior Communist leader blamed both the Central and Telangana governments for the death of Dalit scholar Rohith Vemula.

State president of AIDWA B Prabhavathy, State Committee member V Padma and district president Drakshayani were present.
