Hyderabad: Justice M S Ramachandra Rao of the High Court at Hyderabad on Wednesday directed the concerned officer of the electricity department to pay costs of Rs 3,000 for making a false statement to the court. The judge is dealing with a writ plea filed by a farmer of Madenapalle in Chittoor district. The petitioner complained that without notice his electricity connection was classified as ‘horticulture' instead of ‘agriculture.’

The petitioner would point out that even after a direction in this regard from the electricity Ombudsman the official would contend that the change has been effected. In the present proceedings challenging the order of the Ombudsman who recorded the statement of the official and closed the case, the judge perused the records and found that the statement made by the official was false.
