Visakhapatnam: Additional Inspector General of Special Protection Group Sumit arrived here on Thursday and reviewed security arrangements with the senior officials for the ensuing visit of President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi who would be participating in the International Fleet Review (IFR) to be held from February 4 to 9 on the city Coast.
The security arrangements have been tightened after Goa government last week received a purported IS letter, in which they threatened to attack Narendra Modi and few others. The SPG held a meeting with the administrative, Navy and police officials and chalked out a plan to ensure foolproof security arrangements for the visit of President, Prime Minister and delegates from 50 countries.
The SPG officials reached the ground at RK Beach and few other places and reviewed the security arrangements. Commissioner of Police Amit Garg said adequate security arrangements will be made for the VVIPs and all the police officers in Vizag city have been asked to strengthen their intelligence networks.
The officials were worried after the city came under the radar of terror attack. The police identified a suspect in Vizag who was trying to pass information to Pakistani terror handlers and had plans to go to Pakistan few weeks back.
Officials said Sumit has visited the RK Beach, the main venue of IFR where the Prime Minister would witness the operational demonstration of the Navies and his aircraft landing point at INS Dega. He also visited the INS Satavahana at the Naval Dockyard travelled in a boat from fishing harbour to RK beach stretch.
Other SPG higher ups would come to the city for the inspection of the security measures on January 28, the Commissioner added.
