Hyderabad: A division bench of the High Court at Hyderabad comprising of Acting Chief Justice D B Bhosale and Justice S V Bhatt expressed unhappiness over the response of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments in dealing with the issue of artificial ripening of fruits using harmful chemicals.

Hearing a Public Interest Litigation on Friday, the Bench directed the Principal Secretaries, of Agricultural and Marketing Department of AP and Telangana to appear in person on February1.

Taking note of the local press reports filed before the court, the bench expressed doubt whether these reports are generated instead of making genuine efforts to curb this dangerous practice of using harmful chemicals.

The Bench asked the Principal Secretaries from both States to appear in person during the next hearing so that some concrete steps may be put in place.
