Vijayawada: The State government has been violating National Green Tribunal (NGT) orders and was going ahead with Amaravati capital works though a stay order had been pending in NBT, alleged Pandalaneni Srimannarayana, an environmentalist and social activist.

Speaking to media persons here on Friday, Srimannarayana said that he had filed second petition against capital regarding violation of environmental rules which was posted for hearing on February 28.

Alleging that the government had been trying to pressurise the farmers who were refusing to offer their land under the land pooling, he said 12 roads were proposed in Undavalli village despite protests by farmers.

He accused the State government of going ahead with the developmental works thought there was no environmental clearance for the same. Prof C Ramachandraiah, a social activist, said that the government has been trying to bring pressure on farmers and trying to end the master plan deadline without providing necessary information to villagers.

He alleged that the officials had not even provided a copy of the master plan to the affected villagers in Telugu. Disputing the government claim that population of Amaravati region would reach 40 lakh in near future, he said the census figures indicate a fall in population growth in Krishna district. “Population growth in Krishna district stands at 21 per cent during 1981 and it came down to 13 per cent during 1991-2000 and 9.5 per cent during 2001-2011,” he said.
