AP mulls setting up of Logistics University in EG
The Andhra Pradesh government is likely to set up Logistics University in East Godavari district on the lines of Indian Institute of Logistics, Chennai. This proposal is being actively considered since the government had decided to shift the Petroleum University to Visakhapatnam.
Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government is likely to set up Logistics University in East Godavari district on the lines of Indian Institute of Logistics, Chennai. This proposal is being actively considered since the government had decided to shift the Petroleum University to Visakhapatnam.
At the time of bifurcation of the state, the Centre had promised setting up a Petroleum University in Andhra Pradesh. Following this, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had announced that the university would be located in Rajahmundry or some other place in East Godavari district.
A team headed by the Director of the Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Petroleum Technology (RGPT), Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh, was appointed to select the land. The committee after visiting several places in the district as well as Visakhapatnam reportedly wanted about 500 acres of land to set up the institute and recommended that the institute be located at Visakhapatnam.
It was against this backdrop that the Chief Minister had learnt to have taken up the issue with the Union HRD Ministry. But the HRD ministry is also learnt to have told the government that it also prefers that the Petroleum University be set up at Visakhapatnam.
Following this, Naidu told the MLAs and ministers from the district that he would compensate the shifting of Petroleum University by setting up a Logistics University in East Godavari district. Talking to The Hans India on Friday Deputy Chief Minister N Chinarajappa said that in addition to the Logistics University more companies would also be coming to the district and will have their base in the Kakinada SEZ.
