Hyderabad: Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan claimed ignorance on many issues relating to the stir for Kapu reservation which had led to unprecedented violence in Tuni on Sunday. Pawan who had cancelled his shooting schedule in Kerala and rushed to Hyderabad on Monday morning evaded replies to many questions saying that he does not have understanding about them.

His stock reply to most of the questions was: “I lack complete understanding about how and what had led to the violence.” “But, as I see it, it looks like handiwork of antisocial elements,” he said. The actor further said, “I am told that there were precedents in states like Tamil Nadu and Karnataka where reservations were more than 50 per cent. It is possible to provide reservations without compromising the BC reservations.

But, I don’t have complete understanding on how it was possible to do it and provide reservations to the Kapus. So, I ask the government to explain as to how it wanted to provide reservations. If it cannot do so, then also, it should explain as to why it could not deliver on its electoral promise,” he said. Justice should be done to Kapus without affecting the interests of BCs he added.

While justifying the cause of reservations for the Kapus, Pawan said a demand remained unfulfilled for decades. He was also not categorical on whether he would fight for the Kapu reservations. Because, he had come into politics on the plank of national integration and welfare of all. At the same time, striking a different chord, Pawan Kalyan said, “In our country, class and caste politics exist at the same time.

It’s a complex and sensitive issue. So, if someone tries to raise an issue in favour or against the other community it would result in tensions. It was against this backdrop that political parties should not use caste issues for taking political mileage,” he pointed out.
