Babu made a poll promise, his govt must implement it

Kirlampudi: Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham said that he is not bothered as to how the government would resolve the so-called contentious issues in regard to granting of reservations to Kapus. It has promised in its manifesto and it is for them to find out the way to implement it.

Talking to The Hans India at his residence in Kirlampudi late on Tuesday night, Padmanabham said that he was aware of the legal issues that were now being raised by the government and that caste alone cannot be the criteria for giving reservations.

If it was an impossible task why did the TDP promise during elections and why did it incorporate it in the party manifesto. It is for him to find a solution to all legal problems. A man who had ruled the state for nine years should have known all those things before announcing it. He had given oxygen to the Kapus before elections and after coming to power he has removed the mask.

Replying to a question he said that he was not bothered as to what measures the government would take and how it would make it legally tenable. That is the job of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to decide. I only want the promise to be implemented.

As I realised that the government was trying to dilute the issue by getting a report from the committee it had appointed saying that it was not legally tenable”. The Kapu leader expressed his anger when he was asked if he was expecting the Chief Minister to give him a personal assurance on the issue. Padmanabham said, “Why are you posing such questions. Have you been sent by the government?”

He said if the government issues a GO in regard to the reservations of Kapus he was confident that all necessary legal hurdles can be crossed since all major political parties like the Congress and BJP have extended their support for the Kapu reservations.

Reiterating his decision about the proposed fast, he said it was matter of shame that parents from Kapu community were sending their children to schools only to get mid-day meal for their children. He made it clear that he is ready to sacrifice his life to attain reservations for Kapu community as they are struggling to cope with poverty.

Asked to comment on Pawan Kalyan’s statement on Kapun Ikya garjana, he refused to answer. But, he thanked Chiranjeevi for extending support.
