To release 1,000 cr for the Kapu corporation

Vijayawada: The decision of Nat1ional Backward Classes (BC) Welfare Association president R Krishnaiah to hold dharnas in front of Collectorates on Thursday threw TDP in a flux. Taking serious note of this development, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday called upon Krishnaiah and all BC leaders not to resort to such agitations.

He said opposition parties like YSRCP were trying to create disturbance in the state in the name of caste politics and no one should fall into such trap. Naidu announced that the government would release Rs 1,000 crore for the Kapu corporation.

To buttress his point, Naidu read out extracts of the promises made by all political parties including the TDP, Congress and YSRCP on the issue of Kapu reservations. He said all parties had said that a BC commission should be constituted to work out as to how reservations can be given to Kapus.

But for the sake of narrow political gains, all other parties were demanding the government to take a decision on the issue immediately. He called upon Krishnaiah to understand this and assured him that the government would not do anything that would lead to injustice to BCs. He also said that when the TDP promised reservations to Kapus Krishnaiah was there in the party and it was not right for him being a party leader to oppose it now.

The Chief Minister said while the party was committed to do full justice to Kapus it cannot ignore the interests of BCs since they have been the backbone of the party. He said that the party had given the highest recognition to several BC leaders including Krishnaiah.

He recalled that the party had recognised the services of Krishnaiah to the BCs for the past 20 years and had given him an opportunity to become a legislator and had announced that he would be the CM candidate if the party was voted to power in Telangana.

Naidu said that the decision to extend reservations to Kapus and according BC status for them was based on the economic backwardness among them. “I know the families are economically backward and need to be helped. I am working on the ways and means to help them by extending reservations to them.

However, it would not harm the interests of the BCs,” he reiterated. The Chief Minister also appealed to the BCs not to create political and social unrest in the State by opposing reservations for Kapus. He said Justice Manjunath was coming to Vijayawada on Thursday and the government would give an action plan to him. In order to monitor and expedite the work of the commission, the government had also constituted a six member cabinet sub-committee, he added.
