The State government rejecting the TTD proposal to hike the Brahmotsavam Bahumanam being given to the employees, triggered protest from the employees. Tirupati: The State government rejecting the TTD proposal to hike the Brahmotsavam Bahumanam being given to the employees, triggered protest from the employees. The TTD Contract Workers and Employees Union (TTDCWEU), affiliated to CITU, staged a dharna before the TTD administrative building on KT Road here on Saturday against government’s rejection.
Speaking on the occasion, CITU district vice-president and TTDCWEU general secretary Subramanyam criticised the government for rejecting the TTD proposal to hike the Brahmotsavam Bahumanam to Rs 6,100 against Rs 5,500 given last year to the contract workers and employees in TTD.
He said it was the contract employees, who are mainly responsible for the pilgrim services including health and sanitation, maintenance of choultries, amenities complexes and gardens. But, the TTD is doing injustice to contract staff by not hiking their pay to a reasonable level of Rs 12,000 per month.
Even, Brahmotsavam Bahumanam being given to the employees by the TTD management as a token of gesture after the annual Brahmotsavam, the contract employees were meted out a raw deal, he said and demanded the State government to hike the
Bahumanam.
He pointed that the TTD Trust Board also approved the proposal to hike the Bahumanam but the government rejected it. It may be recalled that the TTD Senior Officers Welfare Association also recently represented to TTD Executive Officer D Sambasiva Rao to appeal to the government to reconsider its decision. Association general secretary and TTD PRO T Ravi urged EO to take steps for payment of Rs 12,200 as Bahumanam to the regular employees including senior officials.
It is pertinent to note that last year the TTD paid Rs 11,000 to regular employees and Rs 5,500 to contract workers and employees as Bahumanam. This year, the TTD at its board meeting approved the proposal to hike the Bahumanam to Rs 12,200 to regular employees and Rs 6,100 to contract workers and employees and sent the proposal to the State government for approval which was turned down.
Sources said that the government also curtly directed the TTD not to hike the Bahumanam to TTD employees more than Rs 10,000 and to the contract employees Rs 5,000. In other words, the government wanted the TTD management to stick to a fixed amount of Rs 10,000 to regular employees and Rs 5,000 to contract workers and employees, which stirred the hornet’s nest.
