The cyclothon was aimed at creating awareness about the importance of cycling and also to motivate the youth about the usage bicycles on a day to day basis.

Flagging off the cyclothon organised by the Andhra Bicycling Club at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium (IGMC), Municipal Commissioner G Veerapandian said “Cycling is a must to keep oneself hale and hearty and protect the fragile environment.” The Civic chief lauded the initiative taken by the club for creating awareness on checking pollution.

Led by Andhra Hospitals Managing Director and president of the club Dr PV Ramana Murthy the enthusiastic cyclists pedalled their way through the thoroughfares of the city. The cyclothon passed through via Benz Circle, Ramvarappadu, Gunadala and Old Bus Stand before concluding at the originating point.

Dr PV Ramana Murthy said that the initiative was aimed at promoting the use of bicycle as transport medium and thereby bring down the level of pollution. He said that though cycling involved only the use of the lower limbs, it was the most energy-generating workout. He advised citizens to cycle at least five kilometres a week to keep fit.
