With hack attacks and cyber snooping becoming hot topics of discussion around the world, an information security workshop called ‘48 hour Cyber Security Marathon’ is being organized in Vijayawada which will give its participants a taste of such conferences and create awareness on topics related to cyber-attacks.

Chalavadi Santosh, alumni of Potti Sri Ramulu Chalavadi Mallikharjuna Rao College of Engineering and Technology (PSCMR) and one of the founders of Spyry Technologies, Bangalore was the key initiator for conducting the ‘48 hour Continuous Cyber Security Marathon’ in PSCMR College.

The event will be conducted at the college campus One Town from February 25 to 27. On the other hand, the event is also aiming to enter the Limca Book of Records as the largest information security awareness marathon globally. In an interaction with The Hans India on Tuesday, Ch Santosh said, “With increased Internet usage, incidents of cybercrime and phishing in the country are on the rise.

Building a strong resource pool of experts was the best defense against the impending rise in cybercrimes. In this regard, I have approached the college management to permit me to organise a 48 hour continuous ‘Ethical Hacking and Information Security Workshop’ to emphasize the need on latest cyber security methods and techniques to the students. Earlier a similar event was conducted at SRM University, Chennai in 2013 by InfySEC, in which the workshop was conducted for 38 hours continuously in shift procedure, which witnessed 12,000 students, he said.

Giving a detailed structure of the workshop, he said that the 48 hour workshop will be dealing with cyber laws, windows hacking, mobile hacking, WhatsApp hacking, website hacking, call spoofing, e-mail spoofing, web, android and system security. "The difficulty level is between beginners to intermediate. Main aim is to spread awareness. According to NASSCOM’s Cyber Security Task Force, India needs 1 million trained cyber security professionals by 2025.

The current estimated number is only 62,000 out of 1 million. I hope that the workshop will create awareness among students and also inspire some to take up their career in cyber security,” he said. Santosh also said that so far he had conducted sessions on cyber security at various colleges which attracted more than 2,000 participants. But it is the first time we are attempting an event of this scale with 5,000 participants under one roof, he added.
