Minister for Minorities Welfare Dr Palle Raghunatha Reddy warned that the government would take stringent action against those who are misusing Wakf properties.  Addressing media here on Tuesday, the Minister said that unlike any other State, encroachers of the Wakf lands would be slapped with cases under land grabbing as well as IPC sections.

Hyderabad: Minister for Minorities Welfare Dr Palle Raghunatha Reddy warned that the government would take stringent action against those who are misusing Wakf properties. Addressing media here on Tuesday, the Minister said that unlike any other State, encroachers of the Wakf lands would be slapped with cases under land grabbing as well as IPC sections.

The Minister said that the Wakf institutions had around 65,770 acres of land at the time of formation of the State of which the department identified 31, 594 acres under occupation. The Minister detailed about the plans to make Wakf lands income generating. “To make the existing lands income generating,

it was decided to develop 2,990 acres of Wakf lands in Visakhapatnam as Industrial Development Zone and the income generated from properties would be spent to achieve the Wakf objectives, as well as the welfare of the poor Muslim minorities,” he added. Raghunatha Reddy said that proposals were made to construct Haj Houses in Kadapa and Vijayawada, besides t hiking the quota of number of people going to Haj.
