Visakhapatnam: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has appealed to the US Trade Development Agency (USTDA) team led by US Ambassador to India, Richard Verma to provide best of the technology and good ideas which his government would implement in right perspective.
Addressing a meeting during which several agreements were signed with USTDA, here on Friday, the Chief Minister said the aim of his government is to take Vizag to top position among the 20 smart cities. “The US team should support us in this endeavour,” the CM told the US delegates.
He said that a new era would be ushered in the history of Andhra Pradesh by partnering with US government and US companies. The USTDA signed a grant agreement with the State government to support the ambitious goal of developing Vizag as a smart city. Principal Secretary of municipal administration, K Velavan and Country Head, USTDA, Heather K Langan, exchanged the papers in the presence of the Chief Minister and US Ambassador Richard R Verma.
“Having a great demographic dividend - particularly youth - India is poised to become a superpower. And by entering into strategic partnership with countries like the US, which are more advanced in technology, would certainly boost the prospects of Andhra Pradesh,” Naidu said and commented that the recently concluded Partnership Summit and the International Fleet Review drew the attention of the world.
“I recently asked the Minister for Road Transport and Highways and Shipping, Gadkari, to lay an expressway from Vizag to Mumbai to give a fillip to the industries. Andhra Pradesh has potential to become number one in the country as it has a vast pool of resources,” he added Speaking on the occasion, USTDA, Director, Leocadia I Zak stated the agency was proud of its collaboration with Andhra Pradesh.
“We will help in advancing one of India’s highest economic development priorities by bringing together the right private sector expertise and committed partners. The opportunities for growth are limitless,” she added. Zak also said US companies were ready to invest 1.3 billion dollars in the State.
