Vijayawada: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said people belonging to Backward Classes need not worry as inclusion of more castes in BC list would not affect the existing BC reservations. He said that the government would provide justice to all 139 castes included in BC list by extending reservation in education, employment and political fields.

Inaugurating mega loan mela for BCs as part of Chandranna BC Swayam Upadhi Pathakam at Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium here on Saturday, the Chief Minister said that a survey would be conducted on the economic condition of BCs. He said that handloom sector suffered heavily due to globalisation and steps would be taken for modernisation of traditional professions for economic viability.

He said that saree and dhoti scheme would be introduced at half-of -the-price to come to the rescue of handloom weavers. He said the government waived loans to a tune of Rs 70 crore for handloom weavers. The Chief Minister said that Adarana scheme would be introduced to extend financial aid for backward classes to continue their traditional professions.

He said education is the only solution to prevent backwardness and the government has been giving priority for education of children among backward classes and sanctioned Rs 1,100 crore towards fee reimbursement last year.

Minister for BC Welfare Kollu Ravindra said more than one lakh BC students are studying in 894 BC hostels in the State. He said the government has spent Rs 550 crore in the last 20 months for the welfare of BCs.
BC Finance Corporation chairman Ranganayakulu said the State government was committed to the welfare of 139 castes, which come under BC category.

Machilipatnam MP Konakalla Narayana stressed the need for BCs to emerge as a strong political force. MP Kesineni Srinivas said that the Telugu Desam party giving priority for BC welfare despite the State facing financial crisis.
