Hyderabad: HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao and IT Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy said that the State government wanted to extend value-based and high standards of school education in the State. Speaking at the first Advisory Board on State School Education held here on Tuesday, Ganta said that the main objective of the government is to make Andhra Pradesh a knowledge and education hub.

It was against this backdrop that the government has decided to develop government primary schools on par with the standards of private schools, he added. As part of this mission, it was also decided to start the government-run pre-schools in the State, he said. The Minister said that yoga, sports and games would be given top priority in schools for the all-round development of children.

However, for this, he asked the parents to extend their cooperation by not mounting pressure on their wards to fulfil their wishes, instead, appealed to them to give children an opportunity to figure out their potential and to shape up their future. Similarly, as the teachers would have lot of impact on the school-going children, Ganta said that teachers should act as role models.

For this, the department has conducted meetings with the school headmasters across the State to take steps to create healthy environs in the State. He said for the sake of providing value-based education, it has been decided to bring in certain changes in the syllabus of the school curriculum.

IT Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy stressed on usage of technology in imparting education to the students, and for this, he asked the teachers to get them acquainted with the technology. However, at the same time, high standards in education would be meaningful when it is based on values, he added.

The meeting was attended by the members of the advisory council: Varaprasada Reddy, Chaganti Kotewara Rao, Dr B P Pattabhi Ramarao and Dr Varlu. They have suggested the government to create awareness on social responsibility and protecting public properties, providing sufficient number of books in school libraries and imparting lessons on values by conducting separate classes.

State Skill Development Corporation Director Lakshmi Narayana, senior officials of higher education department RP Sisodia, Sumita Dawara, Udaya Lakshmi, Sandhya Rani, Raman Murthy and others were also present.
