Hyderabad: Intending to know first-hand the travails of farmers who are being fleeced by private money lenders, the Division Bench of the High Court at Hyderabad directed the petitioners in the case filed regarding the suicides of farmers to produce them before the Court in the next hearing.

The Division Bench of the High Court at Hyderabad comprising of Acting Chief Justice Dilip B Bhosale and Justice P Naveen Rao on Monday also directed the State governments of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to submit a detailed Action Taken Report on curbing the farmer suicides in their respective States.

When the petitioners brought to the notice of the Bench about how private debt was playing havoc with the lives of the farmers, it asked them to furnish the information with them to the special government pleader , Telangana State so that it can enquire into the matter.

The petitioners complained that the two State governments are not acting to prevent the farmers' suicides. In particular, the stand of Telangana government about the causes for such suicides and the number of suicides was contested by the petitioners.

The Bench directed the petitioners to furnish the relevant information on suicides to the special government pleader Sharat Kumar so that they can incorporate in their report. It directed the State governments to furnish detailed Action Taken Reports and posted the case to three weeks later.
