Hyderabad: YSRCP has decided to utilise the no confidence motion to nail the defectors who had recently joined the TDP. According to YSRCP sources, the party will press for the no confidence motion against Speaker K Sivaprasada Rao during the ensuing budget session of the state Assembly which would begin on March 5.

The party would issue a whip to all its MLAs to vote in favour of the no confidence motion. This move the party leadership feels will put the MLAs who defected to TDP in a tight spot. If they violate the whip, they are liable to lose their membership which may force a by election in those constituencies.

This strategy was decided on Saturday at the meeting the party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy had with his MLAs However, the question before YSRCP now is, what if the defected MLAs abstain from the Assembly on that day on grounds of some emergency.

It may be mentioned here that when many MLAs from Congress had migrated to YSRCP during N Kiran Kumar Reddy government in undivided Andhra Pradesh, the Congress party had issued a whip to all its members to vote against the no confidence motion. On that day Congress MLAs who joined YSRCP abstained from the proceedings and later quoted various grounds like sickness and evaded disqualification.

YSRCP feels that if a by poll takes place it would give them an opportunity to expose the ‘machinations’ of the TDP. The party leaders say that they are confident that the YSRCP would retain the seats that would fall vacant once those who defected were disqualified.

Hence, it wants to explore all possible measures to see that the disqualification issue was not kept pending by the Speaker. Meanwhile, the YSRCP constituted a panel of senior leaders to identify the prospective MLAs who may switch loyalties to TDP. The panel has been asked to talk to such MLAs and see that the defections are contained.

They will also be asked to issue statements dismissing reports that they would be joining TDP. Jagan is said to have asked Bapatla MLA Kona Raghupathi, Guntur East MLA Mustafa and Rajam legislator Kambala Jogulu issue separate statements denying that they were contemplating to join TDP.
